St. Lucia came from a wealthy family in the early days of Christianity and lived in Syracuse during the Diocletian persecutions of A.D.304. Legend has it that she refused to marry, choosing instead to donate her dowry to the poor. Another legend says that she carried bread to feed the then persecuted Christians who were hiding in nearby caves. To light her way, she wore a crown of candles.
Please don your own crown and help to end needless hunger with a gift that makes a difference. Involve your friends and colleagues. How about a bake sale? You could make real LuciaCats (sweet saffron buns)....
all of the previous years' calendars....
